Reports of Australian soldiers' exploits in South Africa had a "Boys Own Adventure" flavour about them, and casualties were comparatively light. Returned Boer War veterans were given "Welcome Homes" on their return, and were frequent guests at "Smoke Nights" and the like in their localcommunity. Has anyone read any comments in any WW1 history which drew any connection between the adulation of Boer War heroes and enthusiastic enlistments in WW1? IF so, where?
