I am a journalist with the St George and Sutherland Shire newspaper in Sydney. I have obtained a photograph of an Aboriginal Ausralian Light Horse trooper, Thomas Henry Williams, and I am trying to find out more about him. From a scan of records and speaking to his family, I have been able to establish that his service number was 1450, he was a member of the 3rd LH Dble Sqdn, and that he enlisted (at Mungindi NSW, I believe) on 25/8/15 and embarked for return to Australia on 17/8/16. I would be grateful for any information on the activities of his squadron, where it served during he time of his involvement, what he may have done and whether it was unusual for Aboriginals to be members of the Australian Light Horse. On the Australian War Memorial website there is one picture of an Aboriginal, named Cowan from Grafton, who was a member. My email address is jmulcair@mail.fairfax.com.au With thanks John Mulcair
