Thanks to those who answered my query about El Arish and the Light Horse. I will follow up suggestions and references. I'm now looking for information on the 5th Light Horse, which my grandfather joined, and then settled in the El Arish returned soldier settlement (N.Q.). I've just found his badge, which simply says 5th Light Horse A.I.F. I'd love to find out more about the 5th. Was it a regiment? battalion? brigade? I find the military groupings very confusing!
