Shaun,

My great uncle was in the 8th LH, Alf Chalmers. He enlisted in 1916 and served until the end of the war. I know of a collection of memorabilia that turned up in a trunk underneath a house that was 8th LH and displayed at Parliament House. It had a photo album with a lot of portraits in it. ONe of which was a photocopy of Alf in his uniform. Where the original is, I do not know.An old man I knew, Matthew Maynes was in the 8th LH and gave a leatherbound book of LH photos to ANZAC House (?) A complete list of original enlistments is contained in the "All Australia Record- Victorian listing", a leather bound book printed in 1917 and pretty rare.

Oh, and I think the 8th LH is now a composite Army Reserve unit- the 8th/13th Light Armoured Regiment and based in Wnagaratta. Tubb's and Maygar's hills, both near Euroa, are named after Lighthorseman, Maygar being the Boer War VC winner killed by shrapnel. (I haven't got the Official History in front of me, so I don't know the date.)
