Light Horse is a term used to describe MOUNTED INFANTRY,,,,,,, soldiers who ride their horses to a battle and then dismount to fight. Cavalry, who stay on their horses to fight are refered to as heavy horse,,,,,,,, they carried swords while light horse did not normally do so. A good book for a young person to read about the Light Horse is "To Damascus with the Light Horse" by Ellen Mitchell. The Desert Column by I Idriess is also a good book that is easy to read but the first one was written for young people.
