My Grandfather was ALFRED EDWARD WOODS born in the 1860s Emerald Hill, South Australia son of Philip Augustus Woods a sculpter from England and Mary Ann Woods (nee Magee) from Ireland. At the outbreak of the First World War he was working as a miner in Canada and signed up as a driver with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, B Battalion. He broke bones while training, suffered gunshot and shrapnel wounds before being run over by a French Peasant driving a heavy horse and cart while on parade! While recovering in England he met and married my Grandmother Rebecca Kyne. ALFRED EDWARD WOODS military service records from Canada indicate he was a member of the South Australian Light Horse. If anyone knows if his military service records survive in any archive or the dates he was a member of the South Australian Light Horse I would be pleased to hear from you. emmedwardwoods@aol.com
