Please do keep confusing the issue over this photograph, as I do remember hearing the same story. (as a child) I believe it to be authentic,as you said, taken by a machine gunner. My grandfather was a machine gunner and range finder, of no photographic experience, but I KNOW of others who were. This photograph was not amongst diaries I have seen to date, neither is a photo of my grandfather, but, give it time........it will turn up in some man's records. Finger's crossed!
