The Nominal Roll of the AIF shows your forebear's final unit as being the 3rd Army Field Artillery Brigade. Without seeing the Embarkation Roll for the 6th ALH Regiment, could it be that your forebear was in the 6th ALH Militia prior to enlisting in the AIF. If he enlisted in the 6th ALH Regiment in 1914, it is a possibility that he may have seen action on Gallipoli with the 6th ALH Regiment. His service record from the Australian National Archives should show his 'movements' and dates, place etc,. You may find useful information in Chapters 1 and 2 of Bean's Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918, these two volumes being on Gallipoli as well as in H.S. Gullett's Volume 7 'The AIF in Sinai and Palestine.' Good hunting!
