This reply by 'David' gives the information you require for your forebear's First World War service record from the Australian National Archives in Canberra. In regard to New Zealand service records, perhaps search the internet for a similar sit in New Zealand. Volume 7 of 'The Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918' would contain details of the 1st ALH Regiment and Volume 8 contains details of the Australian Flying Corps during World War One.
