I do not know of any Government Stud Farms.

I do know that a lot of the Light Horsemen brought their own horses with then when they enlisted and were bought of their owners by the Government.

I also know that the Government bought brumbies and some of these were broken in at the Enoggera Barracks.

I do not know if any of these horses returned but many were destroyed by their riders at the end of the war.

In simple terms however, Man from Snowy River was written well before the first world war and spoke of our wild horses.
