Mike: Without giving too much away about myself and my military background, I 'specialise' in the South African Boer War era of 1899-1902 and the First World War of 1914-1918, with a particular interest in the Hunter Valley (New South Wales) volunteers of both these conflicts as well as the Newcastle Naval Brigade men who volunteered and served in China from 1900-1901 during the time of the China Boxer Rebellion. (You may have seen the Charlton Heston movie '55 Days at Peking' which is based on events which occurred in Peking). Australia sent a naval force of about 400+ as well as about a dozen or more 'marines.' I am a published author and will be putting out two books in 2002 focussing on the Hunter Valley men who went to the South African Boer War (Forgotten Heroes Hunter Valley Horsemen of the Boer War) and the other on the 600 Hunter Valley men who served in Palestine and Sinai during the First World War (Horsemen of the Valley - Hunter Valley Horsemen of the Great War). I shall endeavour to contact you through email so as not to 'choke up' this site. Glad to be of service to you, Mike. Regards, diggerdave.
