An update on the Australian National Archives' service:

Printed copies of service dossiers are now AU$16.20, which includes postage anywhere in the world.

BUT - You can now also order an electronic copy of the form, which is free. In order to do this you perform a search of the National Archives of Australia (NAA) 'RecordSearch' database, which is accessed through this page:

http://www.naa.gov.au/The_Collection/recordsearch.html

Or, more directly, through:

http://naa12.naa.gov.au/login.htm

Click the 'Guest' or 'New Researcher' button.

The soldier's dossier you are requesting will be scanned and placed online, where it will be available for anyone searching on that individual to see. At the moment there is a huge backlog of orders, so it's taking longer than the maximum 30 days Archives had hoped to be able to provide the service within.

For an example of a record already scanned, type 'john monash' (minus the quotes) into the 'Key words' field, click on the 'Search' button, then follow the prompts. If you want to narrow your search to just WW1 enlistment information, type 'b2455' 9the series number for enlistment and service details).

Good luck!
