Mark,

I know the following of Roy Bailey from my nom roll on the ICC.

Roy tranfered to the Camel Corps around Jul 1916 from the 2nd LHR (date not confirmed yet) and was taken on strenght of the 4th Company 1st Anzac Bn.

In Dec 1916 he was attached to the 3rd Company and became batman to Lt Arthur Norris who was T/OC of the company before the arrival of Capt Naylor.

During the morning of the 9th Jan 1917 the 1st Bn was sent in to attack the B4 redoubt at the Battle of Rafa.

Roy's company was in suport of the 15th NZ company when they went in and became pinned down most of the day.

When the 3rd comapny was comited around 11 am, Roy was advancing when he was seen to fall by Sgt C Fairwether, he was removed to the CCS and found he had been shot in the abdomen and died there later that day. He was buried with Lt Linford and Pte Paul on the battlefield before the battalion had to withdrawal that night.

When you get his documents I would be interested in when he transfered to the ICC as I had no doc's on him going to the 4th company only going from the 4th company to the 3rd company as batman in Dec 1916.

Steve b.
