A New Year gift to any who might be interested. These notes were made by my (late) father, a lifetime R.S.L. member and former Light Horseman, when he was invited to be Guest-speaker at an R.S.L. gathering in Numurkah, Victoria in the 1980's, regarding his years with the Light Horse. The names might mean something to other readers. Any additions made by me are initialled "E.K."

Joined 8th Light Horse - General Ian Hamilton's Camp Broadford 1913. Others included Jim Beattie,C.Bell, Duncan Colville, A Didwell. Names mentioned re : 4th Light Horse World War 1 - Bert Wright, C & B Bell, Bob Pilkington and Alf Saunders. (E.K.Nothing further to indicate why he wrote this) Troop formed 1924. Warrant Officer Carl Cogger, Edgar Swannee, Ray and Tim (P.O.W.)Warrant Officer Tom Jones. Names - (nothing to indicate why these were recorded E.K.)Jack Irwin, Lt.B. Wright, Sgt T Howells, Trps Art Mapletoft(?) & Ivo Howells (St James)Jack Fell, C Roberts, E Bromley, Alf Clark, Bill Saunders, Bill May, Charlie Robinson, Jack Jones, H Wallace. Camps : Broadmeadows : Dave Webster, G Skinner, Warrant Officer Jones, Laurie Ledger, Baden Johnston. Foreign Legion. J Barling. Maribrynong 1931 Yarrawonga's first Gov't finance Regimental Camps, Benalla, Wangaratta, and bivouacs too. Also attended several N.C.O.schools at Broadmeadows. J Irwin and I as Sgts sat exam 1931 Maribrynong - (no inication as to what this exam might have been, but not underneath and bracketed as follows - (Gunbower) 1st as O.C. J Irwin as Sgt

Duties or undertakings of the Light Horse Regiment Peace time Regimental Camp Corowa 1932 :- Rode horses to camps. Dick Martin drove Mrs Cronin and another and baggage in Nugget Cronin's 2 horses covered wagonette. Escorts 1928 Melbourne Cup. Lord Stonehaven. About 1931 Yarrawonga Show. Lord Somers State Govenor. 1932 Corowa. Sir Philip Game N.S.W. 1934 Centenary Balls Benalla and Yarrawonga. 1935 Tungamah Troop disbanded. Security. W.Church, Browning(?)-> re-formed. Camps Corowa and Torquay. War 1939. Train at Burramine. Convoy. Ted Buerckner in 2.2nd Pioneers. No doubt former L.H. members aquitted well in various theatres.(I just love that!! E.K.) Our experiences 8th Division. Jap thrust through Malaya P.O.W. Changi P.O.W. Camp Burma-Siam "Death Railway" Changi Gaol. (n.b. C.W.B. was imprisoned P.O.W. Changi, force marched to work on the Railway and returned to Changi following its completion. E.K.) Met Ted once and given away - but home. (n.b. C.W.B. told me once he had received information that his brother Ted had not survived the sinking of the Rakuyo Maru en route to Japan, but in fact he was one of six who did. The brothers met briefly once and possibly twice, in Changi. Ted served in the Middle East with the 2.2nd Pioneers E.K.) Major Bill Morrison. Malaya and New G.
