equine dentistry in years gone by

We run an equine dentistry academy training people to become just that. I am researching the history of equine dentistry in our Australian war horses as there is quite a bit documented about overseas horses and not too much mentioned about how the aussies maintained dental equilibration ? Can anyone help or point me in the right direction.
