Units of the Australian Vet Corps were raised in 1914 and continued throughout the war. They (the units) came in two basic forms, stationary and moblie. This was for the different types of formations they had to service.

Men with a Vet back ground (or others) enlisted in these units and were mostly attached to formations to look after the animals, these included Horses and Camels.

It was not uncommon of men of a Vet background (who couldn't join a Vet Unit) to enlist with another unit and later be promoted to Vet/Sgt to care for the animals.

I am not shaw if there is any books on this subject as this is a forgoten field, as without these men our Light Horse formations could not funtion.
