Mel,

Gen Chauvel commanded the Desert Mounted Corps, made up of the Anzac Mounted Divison, the Australian Mounted Division and the British Yeomanry Divison.

Gen Chetwode commanded the XX British Infantry Corps and Gen Bulfin the XXI British Infantry Corps. Gen Allemby commanded the Army called the Egyptian Expedtionary Force.

BdeGen Grant was commander of the 4th Light Horse Brigade but for operational control during the charge placed LtCol Bourchier commander of the 4th Light Horse Regiment, he could have placed LtCol Cameron of the 12th LHR but he knew Bourchier and gave him temperary command.

In those days commanders didn't get involved in the action but stayed to the rear to control the battle. Grant like Chauvel commanded from a distance.

I hope this sorts it out for you.
