Mel.

By Grant's after action report on the battle he states that he with the Co's of the 4th and 12th LHR's carried out a recce of the area to form up and charge. He then allocated the positions of the charge and the acting commander (bouchier). Then moved to a position to command the Brigade and the attack.

One of the points for jerry, is that one section of the 4th MG Sqn and C Sqn 12th LHR where to move to the left during the charge to capture a redoudt (hill 1180) which over looked the advance. That is why the reserve Sqn's were in Column.

He does state that all six Sqn's were in line but the reserve Sqn's were in line by troops in column of route.

He does not say he captured any prisoners personly and that reference could mean that some may have surrendered to him as he rode into Beersheba after the battle?
