In december I wrote about the 12th reinforcments for the camel corps. A large number of this reinforcment are missing on the AIF nominal roll. Some I found to have disembarked in Melbourne sick where they either reenlisted or were discharged. The same happened in Perth WA. Two deserted while four were unacounted for. I sent for their records from the National Archives and recieved the following on them.

Two men were posted as deserters in Perth. There they stowed away on a troop ship for the UK. Once there they tried to enlist in the AIF. One was taken into the 28th Bn while the other was rejected. He enlisted in the NZEF and served in France with the Cantabury Regiment.

The other two were also posted as deserters. One was found in a bar in Fremantle and was discharged with cronic alcaholisum, this should not be a surprise as his crime sheet was as long as your arm for AWOL and being drunk. The last man was discharged in absentee in 1920 as he was never found.
