Thomas Francis Joseph BYRNE
2262 Private Thomas Francis Joseph BYRNE, a 20 year old Labourer from Eurabodalla, New South Wales, enlisted in the AIF on 21 October 1915 and was allotted to the Australian 55th Infantry Battalion, 4th Reinforcements which embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A15 [i]Port Sydney[/i] on 4 September 1916. During Great War, while with the 55th Infantry Battalion, "B" Company, Private BYRNE was killed in action by shellfire about 500m south east of Riencourt, France on 9 May 1917, and while buried on the battlefield by the members of his platoon, there was no known grave found, susequently BYRNE is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
