FOOTBALL IN WAR.

At the annual meeting of the Adelaide Scottish Regiment on Friday evening Mjr. V. H. Edwards exhibited an interesting memento of the South African campaign.

It was a framed document written in Dutch, and dated Concordia, April 28, 1902. The letter was a challenge issued by the Boer soldiers under Gen. S. C. Maritz to the men whom Mjr. Edwards had in, charge, to play a football match at noon. Mjr. Edwards's 125 men had fought hard against the Boers all night, but accepted the challenge, and hostilities were suspended by arrangement while a splendid game was played. The Australians secured a victory. Immediately afterwards fighting was resumed, and the Britishers were able to drive the Boers away before evening.
