Generalleutnant Otto Liman von Sanders (February 17, 1855 – August 22, 1929) was a German general who served as adviser and military commander for the Ottoman Empire. He was responsible for transforming the efficiency of the Ottoman army in the months prior to the Great War. In March 1915, Liman von Sanders was appointed General Officer Commanding the Ottoman Fifth Army located around the Gallipoli peninsula, and was widely credited with overseeing the failure of the Allied army's attempt to a landing and thereby force a path to Constantinople.
