The 16th Gun Section.

Further to the paragraph headed "Is This a Record" ("W.M. Aug. 1) the following additional details are forwarded by Mr. H. J. Sykes, of Kondinin:- "Re wounds received by men of 16th M.G.S., Black, Murray, R. Sykes and McLeod all received wounds and stayed in the line. Black was hit through the hand and on May 2 was shot through lobe of ear and earmarked. Murray was hit under the left arm on second day, in the head and trough the finger. He was later shot below the knee and sent to hospital. He received all these wounds on the Peninsular. He was again wounded at Pozieres. R. Sykes was hit in the head and sent to hospital. Upon return to the line at Anzac he was sniped and hit in the left side. We considered it a graze and put iodine on it and it healed O.K. Later he had his jaw badly shattered by a bullet and in hospital complained of pain in the buttock. Under the X-ray the bullet responsible for the graze was located. He still carries it! Ron Carse, after his leg was badly splintered, was discharged unfit but re-enlisted and obtained his commission in Royal Flying Corps.

In your notes one name was left out of the 16th section's record. Harry Thorne was one of the originals. He was wounded and finished with a commission.
