R.S.L. Land Committee.

Mr. Justice Pike's report revealed that soldier settlement, in Australia had been characterised by heavy losses in cash, and much hardship on soldier settlers. This State compared favourably with others, and to a large extent this is due to the efficient work of the R.S.L. Lands Committee over the past few years. This committee has been most conscientious in its work. The members have given up their week ends year after year to inspect properties and investigate individual cases of hardship. Their relations with the various departments have been such that the Government officials had confidence in their recommendations. All this was reflected in the settler in this State obtaining justice when his claims were considered. The land question is still a big one from an R.S.L. point of view, but we are entitled, on past results and a continuance of the land committee's work to look to the future with every confidence.
