THE OTHER CHEEK.
Scene: Mena Camp. A defaulters' compound. A sentry doing ins beat along the wire fence. Across the way, a little Gyppo shop, from which Achmed, when the sentry's back is turned, rushes to the wires selling oranges to the inmates. The sentry turns, and discovers the Gyppo about to push his forbidden wares through the wires to the Aussie inside.
The pedlar is chased off. Then this:-
Digger inside to sentry: "You _ _ _! You'll be in here yourself some day, and I'll be on guard: I won't let you have a _ pip!"
As it happened, the prophecy was fulfilled, the relative positions were reversed within a fortnight - but the new sentry turned a blind eye on Achmed when he approached the wire and plied a busy trade. Oranges were two for a half!
