The War Pensions Appeal Board

The War Pensions Appeal Board is in existence to-day as a direct result of the efforts of the R.S.L.. and this State, where the proposal originated, can well congratulate itself on having initiated something of untold benefit to returned men. The tribunal has not yet functioned in Western Australia, but will do so in the near future. The following extract from the annual report of thc Victorian branch of the League will, therefore, be of interest to many: "Good use has been made of the Pensions Appeal Tribunals, and many unfavourable decisions registered by the Repatriation Commission have been upset. A number of the tribunal decisions have involved the payment of retrospective pensions over a period of years and instances where the soldier or the dependant has received a considerable sum in this way have been frequent. The tribunals' investigations have been charactorised by a marked sympathetic and fair attitude towards appellants. If this is continued throughout the term of appointment (five years) many returned men will benefit and the community will feel more satisfied that its ex-soldiers are being justly treated."
