Number of Brothers Serving.
In this column on October 24, reference was made to a family in New South Wales from which seven brothers enlisted and three were killed in the Great War. It was thought to be a record for one family. Mr. C. W. R. Beechey, a prominent member of the R.S.L. out Leederville way, and a badly wounded digger of the 4th Field Ambulance, A.I.F., is one of eight brothers who enlisted in the British and Australian forces. Five were killed in action including Lance-Corp. H. R. Beechey, of the 48th Battalion, A.I.F. Another West Australian family to lose heavily were the five sons of Mrs. Meyer, of Subiaco. They all enlisted in thc A.I.F. Two were killed in action while serving with the 51st Battalion, and one (2nd Div. Sig. Coy) died of illness.
