A small advertisement appeared in the Brisbane Courier on 1 January 1920 asking Next of Kin Wanted by the Department of Defence. The notice read:

The military authorities desire the next of kin of the following soldiers to communicate with the Officer in Charge, Base Records, Melbourne, at the earliest possible moment.

The following names were listed:

Dear Sir

I am forwarding herewith Circular Form "A" relative to Nation's History, Roll of Honour, and Memorial Inscription, issued in respect of your son, the late No. 1973 Corporal CN Morton, 7th Light Trench Mortar Battery, which please complete and return to the office as soon as possible. A similar form was despatched to you in January, 1920, but same was returned to this office unclaimed.
