Major Hugh John CONNELL, a 32 year old School teacher from Gosford Road, Hamilton West, New South Wales. He enlisted in the AIF on 31 March 1916 and was allotted to the 35th Battalion, C Company which embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A24 Benalla on 1 May 1916. Subsequently CONNELL was Wounded in Action, 27 July 1917. After the Great War CONNELL Returned to Australia 11 May 1919. CONNELL was awarded the Military Cross, Bar to Military Cross, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order and Mentioned in Despatches
