During the Great War, the 2nd LHR saw service in Egypt, Gallipoli, the Sinai Peninsula, Palestine and Jordan. It returned to Australia in March 1919.

3784 Private Francis Claude Wynyard LOWRIE, a 19 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 October 1914; and was Discharged in Australia, 10 November 1914. He subsequently re-enlisted on 25 March 1915 and Returned to Australia, 30 October 1919.
