3270 Private Philip Gerald BROWNE was a 20 year old student living with his father James Arthur Browne, at Park Place, Park Road, Milton, Brisbane, Queensland. His girlfriend at the time was Nell. BROWNE enlisted in the AIF on 24 May 1915 and was allotted to the 25th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement which embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A50 Itonus on 30 December 1915. BROWNE was transferred to the 9th Battalion and took the additional "A" to his regimental number to differentiate him from the other soldier with the 3270 number. During his service as a soldier, BROWNE gained the rank of Sergeant.
3270A Sergeant Philip Gerald BROWNE, deemed to have been Killed in Action, 22 July 1916 during the Battle of Poziers. His body was never found and so is remembered at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.
