A fund for the benefit of aged ex-service men.
Mr. J. M. McIntyre, of Dongarra, one time a digger in the 51st Battalion, requests an article on the doings of his old unit, which I will comply with in the near future. He states he was interested in a par (W.M., August 22) referring to an item on the R.S.L. Congress agenda whereby it is proposed to establish a fund for the benefit of aged ex-service men. He joined up at 44, served 20 months with his battalion, and, if the fund is not operative for ten years, as suggested, will be just on 70 years of age before he comes under its provisions. He expresses doubt as to his need for any fund then unless it is to erect a tombstone. When the question is discussed at conference this week that phase will have to be considered before any decision is agreed at.
