The Digger in Politics.

Western Mail, Thursday, 19 December 1929, p. 2

The Digger in Politics. Next March will see the various political parties' candidates wooing the votes of the electors with the same old stories. The altered boundaries will make the contests more interesting than usual, and it is not surprising to see a number of aspirants for each of the newly created seats.

The ex-serrice man is well to the fore. Messrs.Arthur Wilson, (Lab.), "Ted" Corboy (Lab.), Latham (CP ). "Ted" Coverley (Lab.). "Tad" Davy CNat.), Panton (Lab.), and, North (Nat.) are among the sitting soldier members ot Parliament who will be in the fight. Others announced are Dr. Joe Kenny (Nat.), who is likely to tackle East Perth; Dr. F. W. Carter (Nat.), who will be opposing Mr. Panton (now representing the to-be-abolished Menzies electorate), and three others at Leederville: Colonel "Tommy" Flintoff (Nat.), for Maylands; Fred White (Ind. Lab.), for Victoria Park; Colonel A. Olden (Nat.). and H. Wells (Nat.), at Canning; Cliff Sadlier, V.C. (Nat.) and A Terelink (Nat.), at Nedlands; Hubert Parker (Nat.), at North-East Fremantle; K. Drake-Brockman (Nat.) and Alf Yeates.(C.P.), for Middle Swan; Ross McLarty (Nat.), for Murray- Wellington; Colonel Denton (Nat.), for Toodyay; and Jack Mulqueeney (Lab.), for Mount Marshall. That is an imposing list and the next election will probably see digger with more comrades in Parliament than he has at present.
