Facts Wanted Now.

Sir lan Hamilton in referring to a speech by Lloyd George on the Dardanelles bungle was emphatic that the time was ripe for the publication of the Dardenelles Commission's report. He mentioned grave defects that existed then in the higher administration of war activities and said that the various departments of the navy and the army were in steel-clad compartments and there will be no change until a Department of Defence is created to co-ordinate action. Sir Ian is of the opinion that the report is being kept dark for the sake of the two or three political reputations and that the public is "flap doodled" by A few extracts from the evidence of some of the witnesses. He does not think that the Commission's report would be harmfull from a strategical military viewpoint although some military reputations might not be quite so shining afterwards.

Whatever the verdict of the Commission is, it should be published to enable the generation which suffered the opportunity of continuing or discontinuing the system which was responsible for the campaign. Otherwise, in 50 years, it will be interesting history but no one will be so vitally concerned as to agitate for a change. And so far as we know the system of brass-bats and red-tape which permitted the Navy to advertise the landing of the Army has not yet been altered.
