Thomas Stewart, late 7th Battalion The following is a copy of letter received from the District Paymaster, 2nd Military District, Sydney, under date of 26.5.19, relative to the above named soldier:- "The following cable from Capetowm, which has apparently been forwarded to this District in error, is advised to you for necessary action. No trace of the man referred to can be found in the records of this District. 'Cable No.534 C.P.M. 380 Capetown 19/4/19. 'Civilian Thomas Stewart late 7th Battalion '(Stowaway) formerly No. 1440, 7th Battalion, 'ex "Kashmir", Third Military District. - absentee." (SGD) T. G. THORPE, Major, A/District Paymaster, 3rd MD. DPM 3rd MD Records held in connection with ex-No. 1420 Private T. Stewart, 7th Battalion, who enlisted in 3rd MD, show that he returned per HT. 'Karoola" on 11.4.16 and was discharged from the AIF at Melbourne on 27.8.16. The cable from Capetown is therefore not understood. 11.6.19 Capt for Officer i/c Base Records.
