HMAT A69 Warilda

 

5th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 10th Reinforcements, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A69 Warilda 5 October 1915.

The HMAT A69 Warilda weighed 7,713 tons with an average cruise speed of 16 knots or 29.63 kmph. It was owned by the Adelaide SS Co Ltd, Adelaide, and manned by Australian officers and mainly by Australian crews. The Warilda was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 3 August 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier;

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1311 Private Arthur Archibald BATEMAN, a 24 year old Wool classer from Warrnambool, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

1309 Private Frederick William BENNETT, a 20 year old Labourer from Lakes Creek via Rockhampton, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 August 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia 23 December 1918.

1307 Private Frederick James George BROWN, an 18 year old Farmer from Toogoolawah, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 April 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action 17 September 1916.

1312 Private Thomas William BURNETT, a 21 year old Fruit grower from Taringa, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 June 1915; and subsequently was Discharged 4 March 1920.

 

1317 Private Curzio CAGNACCI, a 20 year old Labourer from Nambour, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 8 April 1919.

1316 Private Frederick William CAMPBELL, a 26 year old Stockman from Ashfield, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

1315 Private John Lindsay CARDNO, a 19 year old Farmhand from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

1313 Private William Henry CARSON, a 30 year old Horse driver from Nudgel, Queensland. He enlisted on 19 August 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia 9 February 1916.

1314 Private Sidney Owen CUMES, a 24 year old Clerk from Paddington, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

 

1319 Private Alfred William DIBLEY, a 20 year old Butcher from Paddington, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 1 August 1919.

1302 Acting Sergeant John Clifton DOYLE, a 23 year old Teacher from Bangalow, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 March 1919.

 

1359 Private Maundy Garth ELWYN, a 20 year old Commission agent from Inglewood, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

 

1306 Private Christopher Rupert FENWICKE, a 25 year old Overseer from Walcha, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 6 May 1919.

1320 Private Robert James FITZGERALD, a 42 year old Labourer from Spring Hill, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 31 January 1919.

 

1355 Private Cecil Herbert HACK, a 19 year old Clerk from Chermside, Queensland. He enlisted on 13 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 6 July 1919.

1322 Private James HENDERSON, a 45 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 20 August 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia 10 March 1918.

1324 Private Robert Alfred HORT, a 23 year old Carpenter from Tumoulin, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 2 August 1919.

1321 Private Charles Frank HUGGINS, a 35 year old Labourer from Mackay, Queensland. He enlisted on 25 August 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds 4 May 1918.

 

1356 Private Daniel JONES, an 18 year old Porter QGR from Lowood, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

 

1327 Private James Joseph KELLY, a 20 year old Telegraph operator from Charleville, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

5th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 11th Reinforcements Mashrobra Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A47 Mashrobra 4 October 1915.

The HMAT A47 Mashobra weighed 8,174 tons with an average cruise speed of 12.5 knots or 23.15 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 21 December 1916. The Mashobra was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean, 15 April 1917.
