RMS Persia

 

4th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 7th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board RMS Persia 10 August 1915.

The RMS Persia weighed 7,974 tons with an average cruise speed of 18 knots or 33.33 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London. Torpedoed and sunk on 30 December 1915.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1081 Private Lewis Richard BERRYMAN, a 30 year old Labourer from Callignee, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 25 June 1917.

1080 Private Martin Petrie BLUNDELL, a 24 year old Overseer from Noel via Macedon, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 18 April 1918.

1083 Private William Stewart BOWES, a 21 year old Shearer from Portland, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 January 1919.

1085 Private Charles Henry CONNELL, a 23 year old Driver from West Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 31 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 18 February 1919.

4th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 8th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A55 Kyarra 20 August 1915.

The HMAT A55 Kyarra weighed 6,953 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kyarra was leased by the Commonwealth until 4 January 1918. The Kyarra was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 26 May 1918.

The HMAT A70 Ballarat weighed 11,120 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London. The Ballarat was torpedoed by a submarine in the English Channel, 25 April 1917 and sank the next day.
