HMAT A17 Port Lincoln

 

3rd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 4th Reinforcement, embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A17 Port Lincoln 1 April 1915.

The HMAT A17 Port Lincoln weighed 7,243 tons with an average cruise speed of 12 knots or 22.22 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

856 Private Harold Edgar BARBARY, a 19 year old Labourer from Government Tanks, South Australia. He enlisted on 8 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

Lieutenant Charles Frederick BARNETT, a 32 year old Farmer from Reedy Creek, South Australia. He enlisted on 1 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 2 August 1919.

857 Private Norman George BARTON, a 24 year old Storekeeper from Hamilton, South Australia. He enlisted on 17 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 September 1916.

860 Private Victor Thomas Arthur BATTEN, a 39 year old Plasterer from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 10 December 1914; and subsequently Died of Disease, 11 February 1919.

854 Private Thomas Herbert BECK, a 19 year old Blacksmith from Port Vincent, South Australia. He enlisted on 16 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 March 1919.

907 Private Vernon Albert BONE, a 22 year old Horse driver from Moonah, Tasmania. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 21 March 1919.

906 Private Francis Henry BOURKE, a 29 year old Labourer from Launceston, Tasmania. He enlisted on 29 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 December 1918.

861 Private Maurice Joseph BROWN, a 31 year old Labourer from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 18 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 December 1919.

855 Private Mathew James BYRNE, a 21 year old Labourer from Kensington, South Australia. He enlisted on 26 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

 

863 Private Horace Alfred CADD, a 21 year old Farmer from Port Vincent, South Australia. He enlisted on 2 December 1914; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 31 July 1917.

851 Corporal David COLLIER, a 25 year old Iron worker from North Walkerville, South Australia. He enlisted on 17 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 January 1919.

862 Private Louis COLLIER, a 22 year old Iron worker from Walkerville, South Australia. He enlisted on 17 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 5 July 1915.

909 Private William Clyde COSTAIN, a 24 year old Baker from Queenstown, Tasmania. He enlisted on 19 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 8 September 1919.

 

910 Private John William DAWSON, a 22 year old Storeman from Cressy, Tasmania. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 9 January 1917.

911 Private Sydney John DODSON, a 21 year old Labourer from Latrobe, Tasmania. He enlisted on 26 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 8 August 1918.

 

866 Private Joseph Andrew FLANIGAN, a 20 year old Labourer from Blackwood, South Australia. He enlisted on 14 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 March 1919.

 

865 Private William James GOULD, a 21 year old Labourer from North Kensington, South Australia. He enlisted on 27 November 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 March 1918.

864 Private Harry GREEN, a 30 year old Surveyors assistant from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 29 December 1914; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 1 November 1917.

 

867 Private John HARVEY, a 21 year old Driver from Broken Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 May 1919.

912 Private Warren Yuelett HENRY, a 22 year old Orchardist from Birches Bay, Tasmania. He enlisted on 30 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 May 1919.

913 Private Albert George HOLLICK, a 21 year old Labourer from Bracknell, Tasmania. He enlisted on 22 January 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 6 September 1915, and subsequently was buried at sea.

3rd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 7th Reinforcements Kanowna Group, embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A61 Kanowna 24 June 1915.

The HMAT A61 Kanowna weighed 6,942 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kanowna was leased by the Commonwealth until 18 March 1919.

1091 Private Horace Anthony BECK, a 25 year old Storekeeper from Watervale, South Australia. He enlisted on 8 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 3 May 1917

1129 Private Joseph BRIGGS, a 21 year old Labourer from Pt Broughton, South Australia. He enlisted on 5 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919

 

1128 Private George COATES, a 31 year old Clerk from Croydon, South Australia. He enlisted on 14 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 March 1917

1177 Private Patrick CURRY, a 40 year old Butcher from Maylands, South Australia. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919

 

1093 Private William DONELLAN, a 20 year old Trucker from Broken Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 9 January 1917
