HMAT A47 Mashobra

 

3rd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 3rd Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A47 Mashobra 29 January 1915.

The HMAT A47 Mashobra weighed 8,174 tons with an average cruise speed of 12.5 knots or 23.15 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 21 December 1916. The Mashobra was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean, 15 April 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Full name of the soldier

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

740 Private Frank Douglas BIRCHMORE, a 29 year old Labourer from Clarence Park, South Australia. He enlisted on 8 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 January 1916.

742 Private Roy Clifford BIRKETT, a 21 year old Labourer from Everston Villa, South Australia. He enlisted on 26 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

741 Private Frank Percival BROWN, a 20 year old Packer from Kensington, South Australia. He enlisted on 27 November 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 14 January 1917.

 

738 Corporal Albert Ernest CLARKE, a 30 year old Motorman from Marylands, South Australia. He enlisted on 28 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 19 April 1919.

Lieutenant Harold James COPLEY, a 27 year old Stock agent from Blackrock, South Australia. He enlisted on 12 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 19 February 1919.

 

743 Private Cameron John DAVENPORT, a 21 year old Station hand from Hackney, South Australia. He enlisted on 28 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 2 August 1919.

744 Private Frederick William DRUMMOND, a 24 year old Bushman from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 28 November 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 May 1916.

 

745 Private Walter FEATHERBY, a 25 year old Cook and Brass turner from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 11 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 January 1916.

817 Private Michael Edward FERRAR, a 19 year old Farmer from Swansea, Tasmania. He enlisted on 8 December 1914; and subsequently Died of Disease, 25 August 1919.

 

747 Private Thomas Phillip GOURLAY, a 20 year old Stockman from Carrieton, South Australia. He enlisted on 2 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 19 February 1919.

748 Private Henry Armytage GREENE, a 38 year old Farmer from Forbes, South Australia. He enlisted on 28 November 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 1 February 1918.

 

820 Private William Thomas HINES, a 26 year old Accountant from Waratah, Tasmania. He enlisted on 7 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 9 February 1916.

819 Private Albert Henry HOPE, a 21 year old Blacksmith from Sheffield, Tasmania. He enlisted on 15 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

821 Private Edmund John HOWARD, an 18 year old Orchardist from Bellerive, Tasmania. He enlisted on 30 November 1914; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 4 August 1916.
