New South Wales Imperial Bushmen War Diary, 9 July 1900.
This is an extract from the War Diary written by Major David Miller, Adjutant of the New South Wales Imperial Bushmen who arrived in the Mozambique port of Biera and then moved to Rhodesia as part of the journey for deployment in South Africa to see action in the Boer War.
9 July 1900 - Monday
Visited Fort Gibbs erected 1896. Left camp 6.55 marched to wagons 5½ miles by 8.30 a.m. "E" Squadron practiced in attack formation. Troops marched out at 3 p.m. arrived at night camp at 4.30 distance 4½ miles. Camp south side of Black spruit near old stable.
After visiting Fort Gibbs, the men set off for the next day's march. "E" Squadron practiced attack formation. The day ended at Black Spruit where they camped near some old stables.
