Embarkation Roll, 18th Reinforcement

 

HMAT A13 Katuna

 

9th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 18th Reinforcement, embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A13 Katuna on 23 June 1916.

The HMAT A13 Katuna weighed 4,641 tons with an average cruise speed of 11 knots or 20.37 kmph. It was owned by the Ellerman & Bucknall SS Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 10 February 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

2569 Private Ernest Edgar BASSETT, a 34 year old Painter from Kent Town, South Australia. He enlisted on 1 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

2570 Private Cyril Arthur Alfred BUSHELL, a 21 year old Labourer from Broken Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 25 July 1919.

 

R1019 Private Hector McEacharn COCHRANE, a 20 year old Labourer from Langhorne's Creek, South Australia. He enlisted on 15 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

 

2573 Private Desmond Landseer FITZGERALD, a 35 year old Station Overseer from Albemarle Station, Menindee, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 March 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 March 1917.

2574 Private Oscar Amos FLAVEL, a 36 year old Labourer from Kingston, South Australia. He enlisted on 3 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

R505 Private William John FRY, a 20 year old Butcher from Stirling West, South Australia. He enlisted on 7 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

 

2567 Acting Corporal Alick Ferguson GOODE, a 26 year old Grazier from Kingston, South Australia. He enlisted on 23 September 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 20 September 1917.

2600 Acting Sergeant George Roy GOODE, a 28 year old Farmer from Narrung, South Australia. He enlisted on 17 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

R508 Private Andrew GORDON, a 23 year old Butcher from St. Andrews, Scotland. He enlisted on 7 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war was Discharged in Britain, 4 February 1920.

2575 Private Arthur Colin GORDON, a 20 year old Surveyors cadet from Ardrossan, South Australia. He enlisted on 24 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 31 May 1919.

 

2576 Private Eric Oswald HANCOCK, a 24 year old Farmer from Bute, South Australia. He enlisted on 24 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

2577 Private Wilfred Inman HANCOCK, a 23 year old Farmer from Bute, South Australia. He enlisted on 4 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

2578 Private Alexander Lindsay HIGGINS, a 23 year old Farmer from Kulcurna, Tareena, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

2579 Private John Thomas HIGGINS, a 24 year old Farmer from Kulcurna, Tareena, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 January 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

 

2580 Private George JENNINGS, a 25 year old Stockman from Kingston, South Australia. He enlisted on 3 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

2290 Private Rex Victor LEVIN, a 40 year old Engineer from Mildura, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

2584 Private Patrick Francis McCANN, a 22 year old Labourer from Caltowie, South Australia. He enlisted on 1 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 January 1919.

2585 Private Richard Joseph McCOURT, a 27 year old Labourer from Millicent, South Australia. He enlisted on 11 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

R867 Private Charles McDOUGALL, a 29 year old Carpenter from Waikerie, South Australia. He enlisted on 15 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

2583 Private James Osborne MORRISON, a 41 year old Horse driver from Port Lincoln, South Australia. He enlisted on 25 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

 

2586 Private George Henry Joseph NEWMAN, a 25 year old Blacksmith from Clare, South Australia. He enlisted on 4 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

 

2588 Private John POLLARD, a 22 year old Farmer from Big Bend, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 January 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 26 July 1918.

2596 Private Percival George WAUCHOPE, a 23 year old Saddler from Bute, South Australia. He enlisted on 26 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 January 1919.
