3rd Light Horse Signal Troop, AIF, 5th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A20 Hororata 17 April 1915.
The HMAT A20 Hororata weighed 9,400 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the New Zealand Shipping Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 11 September 1917.

961 Sapper Edward HAWKINS, an 18 year old Clerk from East Ballarat, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 23 July 1919.
