9th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 6th Reinforcement Afric Group Melbourne, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A19 Afric 22 May 1915.

The HMAT A19 Afric weighed 11,999 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Federal SN Co Ltd, London. The Afric was torpedoed and sunk in the English Chanel, 12 February 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

The last address as a civilian;

1133 Private Robert KLEESH, a 32 year old Cook from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 25 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 1 July 1916.

 

1115 Private Thomas LITSTER, a 36 year old Labourer from Petersburg, South Australia. He enlisted on 20 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 5 August 1916.

 

1131 Private John Frederick William McDONALD, a 36 year old Quarryman from Magill, South Australia. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 21 April 1918.

 

1117 Private Joseph Ralph PADDICK, a 19 year old Blacksmith from Blackwood, South Australia. He enlisted on 21 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

1116 Private Edward PARKER, a 19 year old Labourer from Port Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 19 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

1118 Private Gillard John PRETTEJOHN, a 21 year old Carpenter from Lockleys, South Australia. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

1119 Private Walter Henry PRETTEJOHN, an 18 year old Carrier from Quorn, South Australia. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

 

1139 Private Thomas Nathaniel RICKABY, a 39 year old Grazier from Meningie, South Australia. He enlisted on 14 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 February 1917.

1120 Private Alexander ROBINSON, a 43 year old Horse breaker from Yalcawina Station, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 August 1918.

1122 Private Arnold RUMBALL, a 31 year old Traveller from New Parkside, South Australia. He enlisted on 21 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

 

1132 Private Charles SEDDON, a 33 year old Telegraphist from Kent Town, South Australia. He enlisted on 22 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 January 1919.

1123 Private Ernest Arthur SMITH, a 19 year old Plumber from North Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 21 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 April 1919.

1091 Private Roy SPEECHLEY, a 21 year old Labourer from Bendigo, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 25 October 1919.

Lieutenant Frederick William STANTON, a 31 year old Station Overseer from Tongala, Victoria Kyabram, Victoria. He enlisted on 28 May 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 4 May 1917.

 

1130 Private Murray Gleeson TAYLOR, a 21 year old Station hand from Strathalbyn, South Australia. He enlisted on 28 April 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 27 January 1917.

588 Private Percy Edwin THOMAS, a 19 year old Boilermaker from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 10 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919. 

1124 Private Edgar Clifford TREE, a 24 year old Stockman from Black Forest, South Australia. He enlisted on 20 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.
