History:
Below is a brief historical outline from RK Peacock, Evolution of Australian Light Horse Regiments 1841-1935, Unpublished MSS, c.1936, p. 16.
This Regiment may claim its origin to the 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment(Hunter River Lancers) in the Federal re-organisation of 1903. In 1907 the 4th became the 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Hunter River Lancers) and remained as such until 1912 when it became the 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Hunter River Lancers) . This designation was carried until 1918 when it became the 16th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Hunter River Lancers).
