SS Hawkes Bay

 

7th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 11th Reinforcement Hawkes Bay Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board SS Hawkes Bay on 23 October 1915.

The SS Hawkes Bay was built at Sunderland in 1891 and weighed 4,583 tons. It was owned by the TYSER LINE (G.D.TYSER & CO.)

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1379 Private Charles Andrew BLAIN, a 39 year old Boundary rider from Marrickville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 September 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 6 August 1918.

1380 Private Arnold Le Ceane BROWNE, a 41 year old Agent from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 September 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 March 1917.

1381 Private Joseph BUDSWORTH, a 25 year old Dairy farmer from Mascot, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 30 June 1919.

1382 Private Walter Ernest BURGIS, a 23 year old Farmer from Glen Innes, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 June 1919.

 

1383 Private Alpin Hector CAMPBELL, a 25 year old Station hand from “Terala Station”, Moree, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 September 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

1384 Private William Alfred CONNOR, a 30 year old Bread carter from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 5 September 1919.

1385 Private Charles Nicholas COOMBES, a 43 year old Horse driver from Kensington, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 September 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 2 September 1916.

1386 Private George Molesworth CROWE, a 31 year old Station Manager from Prahran, Victoria. He enlisted on 7 October 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 January 1919.

1387 Private Joseph Lindsay CURTIS, a 23 year old Labourer from Glen Innes, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 May 1919.

 

1388 Private Frederick DOWLING, a 32 year old Mine labourer from Lithgow, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 June 1919.

1419 Private Roy Edward TILBROOK, a 21 year old Pastry cook from Kempsey, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 September 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.
