HMAT A69 Warilda


9th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 14th Reinforcement, embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A69 Warilda 10 February 1916.

The HMAT A69 Warilda weighed 7,713 tons with an average cruise speed of 16 knots or 29.63 kmph. It was owned by the Adelaide SS Co Ltd, Adelaide, and manned by Australian officers and mainly by Australian crews. The Warilda was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 3 August 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

1987 Private Alfred LEY, a 21 year old Labourer from Farrell’s Flat, South Australia. He enlisted on 27 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 March 1919.

Lieutenant Harry LLOYD, a 34 year old Fireman from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 4 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1916.

1988 Private William Horace LLOYD, a 20 year old Labourer from Kingston, South Australia. He enlisted on 9 November 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 25 March 1918.

1989 Private Albert Sydney LOCK, an 18 year old Motor driver from Caltowie, South Australia. He enlisted on 4 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 12 June 1919.

 

1991 Private William Henry MADDOCKS, a 24 year old Labourer from Blanchetown, South Australia. He enlisted on 19 October 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 July 1916.

1992 Private Ernest William Norman MARTIN, a 21 year old Butcher from Port Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 25 October 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 2 June 1919.

1993 Private Norman Ross MARTIN, a 26 year old Farmer from Minlaton, South Australia. He enlisted on 10 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.
