HMAT A55 Kyarra

 

Imperial Camel Corps, AIF, May 1917 Reinforcement Kyarra Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A55 Kyarra on 3 September 1917.

The HMAT A55 Kyarra weighed 6,953 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kyarra was leased by the Commonwealth until 4 January 1918. The Kyarra was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 26 May 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

3311 Private Arthur Henry RAFTON, a 21 year old Labourer from Pyrmont, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 April 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 December 1918.

3313 Private William Henry RICHARDS, a 34 year old Dairyman from Canterbury, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 December 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

3341 Private William RICKARDS, a 22 year old Steelmaker from Manly, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 April 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 December 1917.

3332 Private Arthur Henry ROZYNSKI, a 20 year old Farm hand from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

 

3351 Private Marcus Beresford SCOTT, a 38 year old Fettler from Waverley, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 April 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 27 January 1919.

3327 Private Bert William SMITH, a 42 year old Boilermaker from Balmain, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

3361 Private Arthur ST-CLAIR, a 28 year old Labourer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 May 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1917.

3340 Private James SUMMERS, a 24 year old Labourer from Broken Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 May 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

 

2691 Private James THOMPSON, a 34 year old Bushman from Darlinghurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 7 April 1919.

3318 Private William Henry THOMPSON, a 31 year old Butcher from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 September 1919.

 

3321 Private John WADE, a 25 year old Farm hand from Kiama, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 January 1917; but failed to re-embark at Melbourne and subsequently Deserted, 8 September 1917.

3320 Private Joseph WARD, a 42 year old Labourer from Surry Hills, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

3322 Private Edgar WILLIAMS, a 29 year old Labourer from Narrabri, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 January 1917; but failed to re-embark at Melbourne and subsequently Deserted, 6 September 1917.

3323 Private Frederick WILSON, an 18 year old Dealer from Annandale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 May 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

3324 Private Raymond WINTER, a 24 year old Carpenter from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

3275 Sergeant Harold Hilton WOOLFE, a 27 year old Council employee from Bathurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 January 1919.
