RMS Mooltan

 

Australian Wireless Squadron, AIF, 4th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board RMS Mooltan 22 August 1916.

The RMS Mooltan weighed 9,621 tons with an average cruise speed of 18.5 knots or 34.26 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London.  Torpedoed and sunk by UC27 on 26 July 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

15981 Sapper Alexander BORLAND, a 23 year old Mechanical Engineer from Burwood, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 July 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 March 1919.

15982 Sapper Stafford Brighton BROWN, a 29 year old Telegraphist from Penrith, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 March 1919.

16031 Sapper Roy Walker BUNSTON, a 20 year old Telegraphist from Carlton, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 June 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 March 1919.

16020 Sapper Angus William Wesley BURCHALL, a 20 year old Labourer from Llanelly, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 May 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 March 1919.

 

16028 Driver Edwin CALDECOTT, a 26 year old Blacksmith from Brunswick, Victoria. He enlisted on 16 August 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 March 1919.

16001 Driver Gordon CALLINGHAM, an 18 year old Carpenter from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 23 March 1919.

16013 Driver David John Blakemore CHAPMAN, a 19 year old Bookkeeper from Diamond Creek, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 May 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 March 1919.

16022 Sapper Geoffrey Joseph Justin CHAPPEL, a 33 year old Clerk from Rocester, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 June 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 May 1919.

16021 Sapper Leslie Henry Charles CLARK, an 18 year old Postalworker from East Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 March 1919.

 

16019 Acting Sergeant John Henry DENHAM, a 39 year old Policeman from Northcote, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 April 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 6 December 1917.

 

15983 Acting Corporal George Henry EVANS, a 33 year old Accounant from Ascot, Queensland. He enlisted on 31 March 1916; and subsequently was Discharged in Britain, 20 February 1918.
