1915

9th Light Horse Regiment Location - Rhododendron Hill
9th Light Horse Regiment War Diary - Distributed Suffolks amongst the Light Horse so as to teach the former their duties in the trenches and also how to manage things generally. They seem a helpless lot and need a lot of instruction.
Headquarters shelled with shrapnel in the afternoon but no damage done.
Higher up the hill one New Zealand machine gunner killed and one New Zealand and two 8th Light Horse Machine Gunners wounded. Two men shot with bullets - total wounded 6.
Digging new trench at night time.
Lieutenant Ragless and 8 men withdrawn from Table Top Hill leaving 12 men there including one sergeant.
Australian and New Zealand Divisional orders state that I am appointed to command the 9th Light Horse Regiment from 29th August 1915.
1916

9th Light Horse Regiment Location - Hod Nabit
9th Light Horse Regiment War Diary - Carrying out Routine Work.
On alternate days, one Squadron takes over line of Outposts running from Bayed to Bada and thus connecting with the Imperial Camel Corps on right and New Zealand Mounted Rifles on left.
1917

9th Light Horse Regiment Location - Abasan el Kebir
9th Light Horse Regiment War Diary - Hargrave, Lieutenant LMS; and, four Other Ranks marched out to Zeitoun School of Instruction.
Luxmoore, Captain EM, left on Cairo leave.
Training morning, Squadron drill. Afternoon lecture to Regiment by Commanding Officer Protection on the March.
Three Other Ranks marched in from railway construction, Deir el Belah.
Two Other Ranks from Marakeb Rest Camp returned.
Morning Hotchkiss Rifle inspection by Desert Corps armourer.
1918

9th Light Horse Regiment Location - Ludd area
9th Light Horse Regiment War Diary - Shelley, Captain JE; and, 29 Other Ranks admitted to hospital suffering from influenza.
Forty Other Ranks marched in from Moascar.
Training as per syllabus.
