The following is a transcription of the 10th Light Horse Regiment, War Diary Account detailing their role at the Battle of Rafa, Sinai, 9 January 1917.
Hod Masaid 8 January 1917
1200 Brigade marched for Rafa
1300 Watered horses and then moved to rendezvous 1 mile east of Wadi El Arish.
1530 Division marched for Sheikh Zowaiid.
2130 Division halted 1 mile south of Sheikh Zowaiid.
Rafa 9 January 1917
0100 Division marched for Rafa.
0500 Arrived vicinity of cross roads 250 5 miles south of Rafa
1110 Brigade received orders to attack C Group of trenches. Came under long range fire at 1140.
1330 3rd Light Horse Brigade asked for and received covering fire. 8th and 10th Light Horse Regiments merged into one line 270 yards from enemy. Heavily shelled by enemy.
1645 Enemy capitulated. Casualties 3 killed 20 wounded. Of the wounded 3 have since died.
2300 Brigade less 8th Light Horse Regiment marched for Sheikh Zowaiid.
Sheikh Zowaiid 10 January 1917
0215 Brigade arrived at Sheikh Zowaiid.
0630 Division marched for El Arish.
1445 Brigade arrived at Masaid.
